Fair Warning!
There are minis of varying quality here. They are all mine.
I make no apologies. I freely admit that they are all practice pieces.
Every one is. I have only recently begun to get the hang of painting and
color. Color choice is the key.
Here's a tip for all beginning painters: You don't have to use only black or white for shading and highlighting, respectively. For some of you that is the first thing you were taught, or just common sense. Congratulations, you have had more artistic training/instinct than me. I didn't really take that tip to heart until the recent past, so most of my minis have horrible shading and highlighting. Maybe not horrible, but it isn't until the Superfigs that I begin to get technique down when it comes to layering/blending.
Perhaps my biggest problem is that I was entrenched in the ancient linear process of basecoat/wash/drybrush. Now I start with the darker colors and work my way up. I don't discount any technique, so I will use layering, drybrush, washing, glazing. I'm not a big fan of priming with white. I'm also a very fastidious painter, I never paint sloppy.
I'm also a slow painter. I started painting and collecting back around 1990 and I am the owner of quite a bit of Games Workshop minis from the past. None of my friends have ever painted or gamed. One tried, but he didn't stick with it like me till he got better. Of course it took 14 years, but I've done loads other things too. I didn't paint at all from 1993 to 1999, so 1999 is the year I really say I started painting.
I'll have a bunch of companies and genres here. Enjoy the ride, and keep all your opinions to yourself! This is more for those people who feel they are making no progress in their painting skills and those just beginning to paint, rather than Golden Demon winners.
